The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Haryana will be held from September 18 to October 1. These are the first elections in J&K since 2014, and they mark the first major electoral event following the 2024 national elections.

Jammu & Kashmir Assembly Seats and Voters
The Election Commission of India (ECI) announced that assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be held across 90 constituencies, including 74 general seats and 9 reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) and Scheduled Castes (SC).
According to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, approximately 87.09 lakh voters are eligible to participate in these elections, with around 44.46 lakh males and 42.62 lakh females.
The voter demographic includes about 20.7 lakh young voters aged 20-29 and nearly 3.71 lakh first-time voters aged 18-19. There will be over 11,800 polling stations across rural and urban areas of the Union Territory.
Of these, approximately 9,506 polling stations are in rural areas, while 2,332 are in urban regions. Kumar highlighted that there were no instances of repolling during the Lok Sabha elections in J&K, and the poll body anticipates higher participation from women and youth.
Haryana Assembly Seats and Voters
In Haryana, the state has 90 assembly constituencies, with 73 general seats and 17 reserved for SC. The voter base includes 2.01 crore electors, comprising 1.06 crore males and 95 lakh females. Among them, around 4.52 lakh are first-time voters aged 18-19, and 40.95 lakh are young voters aged 20-29.
