Szczesny’s decision comes after Juventus’ new coach, Thiago Motta, told him that he would not be part of the team’s plans for the upcoming season. Motta also mentioned that he wanted to move on from some players, including Szczesny and Federico Chiesa.

Adding to the surprise, there were recent talks between Szczesny and Al Nassr, a team in the Saudi Pro League, who were interested in signing him. This makes his retirement even more unexpected, especially because he’s relatively young for a goalkeeper to retire. Last season, Szczesny was still a key player for Juventus, though he often shared the goalkeeper role with Mattia Perin.

Although he had one year remaining on his contract with the club, he has decided to end his career now. He had been rumored to move to Monza in Italy or Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

Before his time at Juventus, Szczesny began his career at Arsenal in the Premier League and also played for Brentford and Roma. Over his career, he made 84 appearances for the Polish national team.
