The Laver Cup 2024 is scheduled from Friday, September 20 to Sunday, September 22. This year’s event, the seventh edition since its debut in 2017, will be held at the Uber Arena in Berlin.
Team Europe, captained by the iconic Bjorn Borg, includes top players like Daniil Medvedev, Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Grigor Dimitrov, and Carlos Alcaraz, who has won Wimbledon, the French Open, and earned a silver medal at the Paris Olympics.
John McEnroe will lead Team World, featuring Alejandro Tabilo, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Frances Tiafoe, Francisco Cerundolo, and Thanasi Kokkinakis.
To win the championship, a team must score 13 points. If the score is tied after 12 matches, a final overtime doubles match will determine the winner. This tiebreaker will be played as a regular set with ad scoring and a tiebreak.
Notably, Rafael Nadal, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal, will not be participating in this year’s tournament.
Laver Cup 2024
The Laver Cup is an exciting tennis tournament where two teams, Team Europe and Team World, compete against each other on hard courts. This tournament was first held in 2017 and is named after Rod Laver, a legendary Australian tennis player who is considered one of the greatest in the sport’s history.
Each team in the Laver Cup consists of six top players. Team Europe includes players from European countries, while Team World features players from the rest of the globe. The tournament is known for its team-based format, which is different from the usual individual tennis matches. It’s designed to bring together some of the best players from around the world for a thrilling competition.

Laver Cup 2024 Format
The Laver Cup features five sessions of matches spread over three days (Friday to Sunday). Here’s how it works:
- Match Format: Each match is played in a “best of three sets” format. If players split the first two sets, the third set is decided by a 10-point match tiebreaker.
- Player Participation: Each player must participate in at least one singles match during the first two days. However, no player can play singles more than twice throughout the three days.
- Doubles Matches: At least four out of the six players on each team must participate in doubles matches. Each doubles pair can only play together once, except in the event of a tie where a decider match on Day 3 might be played if the score is 12:12.
- Scoring System: Matches are worth different points depending on the day. On Friday, each match win earns one point; on Saturday, two points; and on Sunday, three points. The first team to accumulate 13 points wins the tournament.
- Decider Match: If the teams are tied after all 12 matches, a final decider doubles match is played. This match is a regular set with ad scoring and a tiebreaker to determine the winner.
