CBI Charges in RG Kar Medical College Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has charged several individuals with serious crimes, including criminal conspiracy, cheating, and dishonesty. They are also accused of breaking Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, which deals with corruption-related offenses. These charges are severe and involve serious, non-bailable crimes.
The FIR, or First Information Report, was filed after the CBI took over the investigation from the Kolkata Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT), following the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
Ghosh was the principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital from February 2021 until September 2023. Even though he was officially transferred in October 2023, he returned to his position at the hospital unexpectedly within a month.
Tragically, while he was still in that role, a trainee doctor was brutally raped and murdered in a seminar hall at the hospital. Her body, found in a semi-nude state on August 9, sparked widespread protests and violent reactions across West Bengal.
