Swachh Survekshan Awards 2023
Swachh Survekshan, initiated by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) as part of the Swachh Bharat Urban Mission in 2016, stands as the largest global survey focusing on urban sanitation and cleanliness.
This activity serves as a friendly competition for towns and cities, motivating them to enhance cleanliness and improve waste management services for their residents.
According to MoHUA officials, the primary objective of Swachh Survekshan is to promote extensive citizen involvement and raise awareness across all segments of society about the collective effort needed to make towns and cities more livable.
In its eighth year, the survey involved 3,000 assessors evaluating over 4,500 cities based on 46 indicators. These indicators cover aspects such as door-to-door waste collection, zero waste events, accessible toilets for people with disabilities, and better management of plastic waste.
