Additionally, Mahant Narayan Giri, the head priest of Doodheshwar Nath temple, shared insights from a recent meeting with CM Yogi. During the meeting, the CM assured him of considering the request for a name change. Giri explained the historical context, stating that Ghaziabad was originally known as Gaj Prastha before being renamed by Mughal emperor Akbar’s brother-in-law, Ghazuddin.
Giri expressed their preference for renaming the city as either Gaj Prastha, Doodheshwar Nath Nagar, or Haranandipuram. He underscored the significance of avoiding names with colonial or slavery associations after independence. Appreciating the municipal corporation’s approval of the proposal, Giri expressed confidence in CM Yogi restoring the city’s historical glory.

Several railway stations and districts in Uttar Pradesh have undergone name changes. In November 2023, discussions reignited about renaming a significant district. Currently, efforts are underway to rename Aligarh to Harigarh. The Aligarh Municipal Corporation has approved a proposal to change the district’s name, making the transformation from Aligarh to Harigarh imminent.
