The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the schedule and groups for the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup 2025, which will be held in Malaysia. This tournament will feature 16 teams and include a total of 41 matches, just like the first edition held in 2023.
The tournament will begin on January 18, with Australia playing against Scotland in the opening match. The competition will continue for two weeks, with the final match scheduled for February 2. Defending champions India, who won the first-ever Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in 2023, are in Group A. They will compete against teams from the West Indies, Sri Lanka, and the host nation, Malaysia.
Group B includes England, who were the runners-up in 2023, along with Pakistan, Ireland, and the USA. Group C features teams from New Zealand, South Africa, an African qualifier, and Samoa. Finally, Group D consists of Australia, Bangladesh, an Asian qualifier, and Scotland.
To ensure that weather or unforeseen events don’t disrupt the tournament, reserve days have been set aside for the semifinals and the final. This means if any of these important matches are affected by bad weather or other issues, they can be played on these extra days.
India made history by winning the first-ever Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in 2023, marking their first World Cup victory in women’s cricket. They will be looking to defend their title in the upcoming tournament.

India Will Play in Semi-Final 2 If They Qualify
The tournament format is structured so that the top three teams from each group move on to the Super Six stage. Here, they are split into two new groups: one consisting of the top three teams from Group A and Group D, and the other from Group B and Group C.
Teams carry forward their points and net run rates from the group stage to the Super Six stage. The top two teams from each Super Six group will then advance to the semi-finals.
If India makes it to the semi-finals, they will compete in Semi-Final 2. The Indian women’s cricket team, known as the Women in Blue, will be determined to defend their title after winning the first edition of the tournament in South Africa in 2023, where they beat England by seven wickets in the final.
For all knockout matches, reserve days are in place. February 1 is reserved for both semi-finals, and February 3 for the final. Initially, Thailand was set to co-host the event with Malaysia, but after Thailand’s withdrawal, Malaysia became the sole host.
