Indian football legend Sunil Chhetri has decided to return from retirement to support the national team in the upcoming FIFA international window, which begins in March 2025. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) officially announced this decision on Thursday.

AIFF shared the news on social media platform X, stating, “The captain, leader, legend will return to the Indian national team for the FIFA International Window in March.”

Chhetri’s comeback is expected to take place in India’s important match against Bangladesh on March 25. This match is part of the third round of qualifiers for the AFC Asian Cup 2027.

The 40-year-old football star had earlier announced his retirement from international football in June 2024. He had played his farewell match against Kuwait in the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. However, after careful consideration, Chhetri has now decided to step back onto the field and contribute to India’s campaign in the upcoming tournament.
