Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) won the toss and chose to bowl first in their opening match of the 2025 Women’s Premier League (WPL) season. However, one notable absence from their playing XI was Shreyanka Patil, despite her impressive performance last season, where she claimed the purple cap.
Shreyanka’s exclusion is not due to being dropped, but rather because of an injury. The 22-year-old has not participated in any competitive cricket since the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.
In October, ahead of the third ODI against New Zealand, the BCCI announced that Shreyanka was dealing with “shin splints.” As a result, she missed the team’s tour to Australia and white-ball series at home against the West Indies and Ireland. RCB has yet to provide any updates on her injury or potential return.
RCB’s Shreyanka Patil Ruled Out of WPL 2025 Due to Injury
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has received some bad news as Shreyanka Patil, one of their players, has been ruled out of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 because of an injury.
According to sources, all-rounder Sneh Rana has joined the RCB team recently and has been training with them for the last three to four days. Rana had not been picked in the WPL auction last year after being let go by the Gujarat Giants team.
Shreyanka had appeared in some videos posted by RCB before the start of the tournament, but she was missing from the match against Gujarat Giants (GG) on February 14, 2025, which was held at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. Her absence raised concerns about her participation in the tournament.
Afterward, Shreyanka, who is 22 years old, shared a message on her social media, suggesting that something was not right with her condition. On Instagram, she posted, “Heartbroken, but I will fly again,” showing that she is feeling disappointed but remains hopeful for recovery.

Shreyanka Patil’s Injury Struggles
Shreyanka Patil, who claimed the Purple Cap in the previous WPL season and took four wickets in the final against Delhi Capitals, has been dealing with injury setbacks. She missed several games due to a finger injury and later sustained another injury during the Women’s Asia Cup match against Pakistan, which forced her to sit out the rest of the competition.
After recovering, Shreyanka made her return in the Women’s T20 World Cup in the UAE. However, she missed India’s home series against Ireland and the West Indies. With the ODI World Cup approaching later this year, the skilled off-spinner is working hard to regain full fitness.
Meanwhile, RCB has been grappling with its own injury woes. Their spin attack has been weakened as Sophie Molineux, Asha Sobhana, and Shreyanka are all sidelined. Additionally, Kate Cross and New Zealand’s 2024 World Cup-winning captain Sophie Devine have withdrawn from the squad.
In the absence of Shreyanka, Sobhana, and Molineux, RCB is relying on Prema Rawat, Georgia Wareham, Charlie Dean, and Kanika Ahuja as their spin bowling options.
