On Wednesday, June 26, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Shivam Dube will replace Nitish Kumar Reddy in India’s squad for the upcoming tour of Zimbabwe. This tour will start on July 6, and the Indian team will play five T20 International (T20I) matches against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club from July 6 to July 16.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, a 21-year-old player from Visakhapatnam, was initially selected for this tour after his impressive performance in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) while playing for SunRisers Hyderabad. Unfortunately, he has been ruled out due to an injury. The specifics of his injury haven’t been shared by the BCCI, but Nitish will now be looked after by the BCCI medical team.
Shubman Gill will be leading the Indian team during this tour. The decision to replace Nitish with Shivam Dube was made a few days after the senior selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, announced the 15-member squad for the tour.
Shivam Dube Replaces Injured Nitish Reddy
A few days ago, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Shubman Gill will be the new captain of the Indian cricket team for the Zimbabwe tour, as regular captain Rohit Sharma won’t be joining. Now, there is a new update about the team.
Nitish Reddy, an all-rounder from Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), is injured and won’t be able to play. He has been replaced by Shivam Dube, a strong hitter from Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
The Indian Men’s Selection Committee chose Dube to fill in for Reddy in the squad. The BCCI’s medical team is watching Reddy’s health to see how he recovers. With Shubman Gill as the captain, this young Indian team will play a five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The series will take place in Harare, with the first match scheduled for July 6.
