DC’s captain, Rishabh Pant, has been fined 24 Lakh rupees for the second time in a row for his team’s slow-over rate during the IPL 2024 match against KKR on April 3 in Vizag. Not only Pant but the entire playing XI was penalized for this offense. Unfortunately, this loss to KKR marks DC’s third defeat this season.
Despite Pant’s impressive batting alongside Tristan Stubbs, the rest of the Delhi team couldn’t perform, allowing KKR to score a whopping 272 runs in just 20 overs. This became the second-highest score ever in IPL history, making it a tough chase for DC.
DC’s innings came to a halt at 166, resulting in KKR winning by a significant margin of 106 runs.
According to a statement by the BCCI, Pant was fined due to DC’s slow over-rate, a problem that also occurred during their previous win against CSK. Hence, the fine of 24 Lakh rupees was imposed on Pant.
Rishabh Pant Fined Rs 24 Lakh
The BCCI took action against Rishabh Pant, captain of Delhi Capitals, and the whole team because they didn’t keep up with the required pace of overs for the second time in a row during the IPL 2024. This breach of conduct happened during their game against Kolkata Knight Riders in Vizag.
Pant received a fine of ₹24 lakh, and other members of DC XI, including the Impact Player Abishek Porel, were fined either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is less.
In their previous match against Chennai Super Kings at the same venue, Delhi Capitals also had a slow over rate, resulting in Pant being fined ₹12 lakh. Individual players of DC were also fined.

Sunil Narine displayed his batting skills with an impressive 85 runs, while newcomer Angkrish Raghuvanshi hit a smooth fifty in his IPL debut for KKR, helping them reach a formidable total of 272/7, just five runs shy of the tournament’s highest score ever.
On the other hand, the Capitals struggled to keep up, both with the ball and the bat, crumbling under the pressure of the massive target set by KKR.
Although skipper Rishabh Pant managed to score his second consecutive half-century and Tristan Stubbs also contributed with a fifty, their efforts were in vain as DC fell short, folding for 166 runs in 17.2 overs, marking their third defeat of the season.
This loss marks DC’s third in four matches, placing them at No.9 in the IPL 2024 points table with one of the poorest net run rates.
Pant admitted, “Our bowlers struggled today. It was just one of those days where we didn’t perform well. We need to bounce back from this.”
Adding to it, he said, “As a batting unit, our aim was to keep pushing hard together. It’s better to go down fighting as a team rather than holding back from chasing the target.”
