India’s Tour of England 2025

With less than a year remaining before India’s major cricket tour of the UK, the BCCI has unveiled the schedule for the India Vs England five-Test series. India will kick off their nearly two-month tour with matches across London, Headingley, Birmingham, and Manchester, marking the beginning of a new World Test Championship cycle.

India hasn’t won a Test series in England since 2007, despite a close 2-2 draw in 2021. Captain Rohit Sharma, who has already achieved success against Australia and England at home, faces one of his toughest challenges yet in this series.

The series will be held at five prominent Test venues in England. The first Test will take place at Headingley’s Leeds Cricket Ground from June 20 to 24. After a week’s break, the teams will head to Birmingham’s Edgbaston Cricket Ground from July 2 to 6.

It’s not yet confirmed if India will play any warm-up matches before the series. They may also compete in the World Test Championship final if they qualify, which is expected to occur just before the series begins. Currently, India leads the WTC standings with a win percentage of 68.51%, surpassing second-placed Australia, though Australia has more points. India has played three fewer Tests but has won six out of nine.

India vs England Test Series Recap

In their last tour of England in 2021, led by Virat Kohli, India came close to winning a Test series in the UK for the first time in 14 years. After the first Test ended in a draw due to rain, India dominated the second Test at Lord’s, winning by 151 runs.

This match was notable for Kohli’s famous ’60 overs of hell’ remark and KL Rahul’s century. However, England bounced back strongly, defeating India by an innings and 76 runs at Leeds to even the series. India quickly regained momentum with a decisive 157-run victory at The Oval, where Rohit Sharma scored his first Test century abroad.

The series was disrupted when the final Test in Manchester was postponed due to a Covid outbreak, and it was rescheduled for the following year. England eventually won the rescheduled Test at Edgbaston by 7 wickets.

Earlier this year, India and England faced off again in a challenging five-Test series. India made a remarkable comeback to win 4-1, with Yashasvi Jaiswal shining with over 700 runs, including two double-centuries. The series also marked Test debuts for five young players: Rajat Patidar, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel, Akash Deep, and Devdutt Padikkal, who all made notable contributions over the two months.
