Government Formation in Maharashtra
On Thursday, caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, along with his deputies Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda to discuss the formation of the new government in Maharashtra.
Due to Shinde’s visit to his hometown in Satara district, a key meeting of the Mahayuti alliance was postponed and rescheduled for Sunday.
In the recent state assembly elections, the BJP emerged as the single largest party with 132 seats, followed by its allies Shiv Sena with 57 seats and NCP with 41 seats.
On Saturday, Senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Shirsat shared with ANI that Shinde is expected to make an important decision by Sunday. He said, “Whenever Eknath Shinde feels the need for some time to reflect, he heads to his village. By tomorrow evening, he will make a significant political decision. Everything will be clear by Monday evening, and the oath-taking ceremony should happen before December 5, as we are preparing for it.”
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is considered a top contender for the chief minister’s post, reassured that there have been no differences within the Mahayuti alliance. “Our decisions have always been made collectively,” he said.
Fadnavis further clarified, “Before the elections, we agreed that the decision about the Chief Minister’s position would be taken collectively after the results. Some doubts had been raised, but Eknath Shinde ji has cleared those today. We will meet with our leaders soon and finalize the decision.”
