Good Governance Day 2024

Good Governance Day 2024 is celebrated every year on December 25, marking the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. This day aims to promote awareness about government accountability and its role in serving the people of India.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee held the position of Prime Minister three times: first for 13 days in 1996, then for 13 months between 1998 and 1999, and finally for a full term from 1999 to 2004. Notably, he was the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to assume this role.

Good governance, centered on the well-being of citizens, forms the backbone of an effective administration. Since 2014, the government has observed Good Governance Day to emphasize this commitment.

Good Governance Day serves as a platform to inform citizens about government initiatives, address challenges to governance, and enhance public awareness of various schemes and programs. To strengthen this effort, the government introduced the Good Governance Index (GGI) in 2019.

This index, developed using key indicators of governance, helps measure the performance of states over time. The Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions plays a vital role in assessing the impact of development projects at both state and municipal levels.

The Good Governance Week, or Sushasan Saptah, was celebrated from December 19 to December 25, organized by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG). The week featured various events and seminars aimed at promoting transparency and efficiency in governance.

Key Highlights of the Inaugural Ceremony

The inaugural event, held at the Dr. Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi, was graced by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh. During the ceremony, a special booklet chronicling the Journey of 25 Regional Conferences (2014–2023) and the 2023 Annual Report of CPGRAMS was released.

Launch of the E-Office Advanced Analytics Dashboard

An innovative e-Office Advanced Analytics dashboard was unveiled on the first day. This tool is designed to enhance data analysis and decision-making within the Central secretariat.

Introduction of the CPGRAMS Mobile App

To empower citizens, the CPGRAMS Mobile App will soon be launched, allowing users to file grievances easily, including through voice-based inputs.
