On Friday, a Vistara flight from Mumbai to Frankfurt was diverted to Erzurum Airport in Turkey due to a bomb threat. Flight UK27 made an emergency landing at Erzurum Airport at 7:05 pm (IST), and all passengers and crew were safely evacuated.

A cabin crew member discovered a written bomb threat in one of the toilets and promptly reported it. According to a Vistara spokesperson, the airline immediately notified authorities, and security agencies conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft.

The spokesperson stated, “Vistara flight UK27, traveling from Mumbai to Frankfurt on September 6, 2024, was diverted to Turkey due to a security concern identified by our crew. The aircraft landed safely at Erzurum Airport, and we are cooperating fully with security agencies to complete the necessary checks. The safety and security of our passengers, crew, and aircraft are our top priorities.”

Vistara Flight Diverted to Turkey

A Vistara flight traveling from Mumbai to Frankfurt was rerouted to Turkey due to security concerns, according to the airline. The plane landed safely at Erzurum Airport in eastern Turkey.

In a post on X, Vistara stated, “Flight UK27 from Mumbai to Frankfurt has been diverted to Erzurum Airport in Turkey due to security reasons and landed safely at 19:05 hours. Please stay tuned for further updates.”

An airline spokesperson explained that the crew identified a security issue and notified the relevant authorities. “On September 6, 2024, Vistara flight UK27 from Mumbai to Frankfurt was diverted to Turkey due to a security concern observed by our crew. The aircraft has safely landed at Erzurum Airport. We have alerted the appropriate authorities and are fully cooperating with security agencies for the necessary checks.”

The airline emphasized that the safety and security of passengers, crew, and aircraft are their top priorities.

Indigo Flight Rerouted Due to Bomb Threat

Last week, on September 1, an Indigo flight that was traveling from Jabalpur to Hyderabad had to be redirected to Nagpur because of a bomb threat. When the plane landed in Nagpur, all the passengers were safely taken off the aircraft. The airline then carried out necessary security checks to ensure everyone’s safety, as explained in an Indigo statement.

The airline also said, “We offered help and refreshments to the passengers and apologize for any trouble this caused.”

Earlier, on August 22, Thiruvananthapuram airport experienced a major emergency when an Air India flight arriving from Mumbai reported a bomb threat. The flight landed at the airport around 8 a.m. and was moved to a special area away from other planes.

By 8:44 a.m., all 135 passengers had been safely evacuated from the plane. The pilot had reported the threat around 7:30 a.m. as the plane was nearing Thiruvananthapuram airport.
