About Dwarka

Dwarka is famous for its ancient ties to Lord Krishna, who is said to have settled there after defeating his uncle Kansa in Mathura, according to Hindu legends. It’s often referred to as Lord Krishna’s Karm Bhoomi. According to belief, the city sank under the sea long ago following Lord Krishna’s departure from Earth.

In ancient times, Dwarka served as the capital in Saurashtra by the Aryans. The Dwarkadhish Temple, dedicated to Krishna, was originally built around 2,500 years ago. However, it was destroyed by Mahmud Begada’s rulers and later rebuilt in the 16th century.

Recently, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated Sudarshan Setu, the country’s longest cable-stayed bridge, spanning 2.32 km over the Arabian Sea. This bridge connects Beyt Dwarka island to mainland Okha in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district. Additionally, he launched and laid the foundation stone for various development projects valued at over ₹4150 crore in the city.
