3 IAS aspirants tragically lost their lives due to drowning at a coaching center in Old Rajinder Nagar, central Delhi. The incident occurred after heavy rainfall on Saturday evening, which caused the basement of the institute to flood. The police have confirmed this unfortunate event.
The incident took place at Rau’s IAS Study Circle, located on Bada Bazar Marg. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Harsha Vardhan, the victims were identified as two women and one man. The flooding was a result of the intense downpour, which led to water rapidly accumulating in the basement area where the IAS aspirants were present.
This tragic event has raised concerns about the safety measures in place at educational institutions, especially those situated in areas prone to waterlogging. The authorities are likely to investigate the circumstances that led to the flooding and assess the institute’s emergency response protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.
Tragic Flooding in Delhi Coaching Center
Three IAS aspirants tragically lost their lives when the basement of a coaching center in Delhi’s Old Rajendra Nagar area flooded after heavy rainfall hit the city. The incident occurred at Rau’s IAS Study Circle, a well-known coaching center for civil services exam preparation.
According to officials, the basement quickly filled with water, trapping the IAS aspirants inside. Despite the students’ efforts to escape, the rapidly rising water levels overwhelmed them. The Delhi Fire Department received an emergency call from the coaching center around 7 pm on Saturday, reporting the flooded and waterlogged basement.
Firefighters and rescue teams rushed to the scene and worked tirelessly to pump out the water and reach the trapped students. Unfortunately, by the time they managed to access the basement, it was too late to save the three IAS aspirants. Their bodies were recovered and sent for post-mortem examinations.
This tragic incident highlights the severe impact of heavy rainfall on the infrastructure in Delhi, particularly in low-lying areas. It also raises concerns about the safety measures and emergency preparedness of institutions in flood-prone regions. Authorities are now investigating the incident to determine if any negligence contributed to the fatalities and to ensure such tragedies do not occur in the future.

Delhi Fire Services Rescue Operation at Rau’s IAS Study Circle
Delhi Fire Services (DFS) chief Atul Garg stated that a fire control room received a call at 7 PM regarding the incident.
On Sunday, Garg informed the media that five fire tenders arrived at the scene and discovered waterlogging in the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle at Bada Bazar Marg in Old Rajendra Nagar.
“The owner reported that three to four IAS aspirants were missing. Due to the flooded basement and waterlogged road, water removal was challenging. Rescue teams from the NDRF and other agencies joined the operation,” Garg said.
He added that by 10:30 PM, rescue teams had recovered two bodies, and a third body was found around 1:30 AM.
DCP Vardhan explained that heavy rainfall caused waterlogging, which flooded the basement and made the rescue operation difficult due to darkness.
“We are investigating the cause of the basement flooding, which seemed to happen very quickly,” he said.
Delhi minister Atishi has ordered an immediate investigation and directed the chief secretary to conduct a magisterial inquiry, with a report due within 24 hours.
“I am monitoring the situation closely. A magisterial inquiry is underway, and those responsible will be held accountable,” she said.
