Veteran Tamil actor Delhi Ganesh passed away on Saturday night at the age of 80 due to health complications. His family confirmed his death in a statement, saying, “We regret to inform you that our father, Mr. Delhi Ganesh, passed away on November 9 at around 11 PM.” His mortal remains are currently at Ramapuram, Chennai, with final rites planned for November 11.

Ganesh’s career spanned over 40 years, during which he appeared in more than 400 films and became a cherished figure in Tamil cinema. Renowned for his versatility, he excelled in a wide range of roles, from comic and villainous characters to heartfelt supporting roles, leaving a remarkable legacy in the film industry.

Delhi Ganesh Died

Veteran Tamil actor Delhi Ganesh passed away in Chennai on November 9 at the age of 80 due to age-related health issues. His son, Maha Devan, confirmed the news on social media. Before beginning his acting career, Ganesh served in the Indian Air Force from 1964 to 1974.

His last rites are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Monday, November 11. In a heartfelt statement, his son shared, “We deeply regret to inform that our father, Dr. Delhi Ganesh, has passed away on November 9, 2024, at around 11 p.m.”

About Delhi Ganesh

Delhi Ganesh, a veteran Tamil actor, began his film journey with director K. Balachander in Pattina Pravesam (1976). Originally from Delhi, he was an active member of the Dakshina Bharata Nataka Sabha, a prominent theater troupe. Director K. Balachander named him “Delhi Ganesh,” which became his iconic screen identity.

After serving in the Indian Air Force for a decade, Ganesh transitioned to acting, building a distinguished career with over 400 films. Most recently, he appeared alongside Kamal Haasan in Indian 2, marking the latest role in his long and celebrated career.

Ganesh, celebrated for his versatility, was a familiar face in Tamil cinema and a regular in many of Kamal Haasan’s iconic films, from Nayakan to Indian 2. In a 2021 interview with The New Indian Express, he shared his fondness for the movies he did with Kamal Haasan, saying these roles brought him significant recognition.

He cited Avvai Shanmughi, Thenali, Michael Madana Kama Rajan, and Apoorva Sagodharargal as his personal favorites, appreciating Kamal’s unique ability to give actors both space and trust, which, he said, “makes all the difference.”

Among Delhi Ganesh’s most memorable roles were his performances in Sindhu Bhairavi (1985), Nayakan (1987), Apoorva Sagodharargal (1989), Michael Madana Kama Rajan (1990), Aahaa..! (1997), and Thenali (2000). His talent also extended to other languages, including Malayalam, Telugu, and Hindi.

Recognizing his contributions, he was awarded the Tamil Nadu State Film Award Special Prize in 1979 for Pasi and the prestigious Kalaimamani Award by the Tamil Nadu government in 1994.
