Veteran actor Deb Mukherjee passed away at the age of 83 on Friday morning due to age-related ailments, as confirmed by his spokesperson to Zoom. A member of the renowned Samarth-Mukherjee family, he was the father of filmmaker Ayan Mukerji and the father-in-law of director Ashutosh Gowariker.

Deb Mukherjee’s Funeral Details

The funeral of veteran actor Deb Mukherjee will take place at Pawan Hans Crematorium in Juhu on March 14 at 4 PM.

According to sources, several members of his extended family are expected to attend, including Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Rani Mukerji, Tanuja, Tanisha, and filmmaker Aditya Chopra. Many of his son Ayan Mukerji’s close friends from the film industry, such as Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan, Sidharth Malhotra, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh, are also likely to be present to pay their final respects.

Deb Mukherjee’s Life and Career

Born in Kanpur in 1941, Deb Mukherjee belonged to a renowned film family with deep roots in Bollywood. His mother, Satidevi, was the sister of legendary actors Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. His brothers included popular actor Joy Mukherjee and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, who was married to veteran actress Tanuja. This made Deb Mukherjee the uncle of Bollywood stars Kajol and Rani Mukerji.

Deb Mukherjee was married twice. His daughter from his first marriage, Sunita, is married to filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, known for directing Lagaan and Jodhaa Akbar. His son, Ayan Mukerji, is from his second marriage and is a well-known director behind films like Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Brahmāstra.

Deb Mukherjee started his acting journey in the 1960s with minor roles in films like Tu Hi Meri Zindagi and Abhinetri. While he worked in several notable films, including Do Aankhen and Baton Baton Mein, he could not achieve the same level of stardom as his brother Joy Mukherjee.
